William Galahad

Home birth, HazelTree MidwiferyWilliam Galahad….isn’t that the most noble, stately name you’ve ever read?  I already envision him in a suit of shining armor, bearing a white shield, riding a well muscled steed while on his quest for the Holy Grail.  But, maybe this midwife reads too much historical fiction…

William was born Feb. 6, 2016 at his parent’s bedside.  It was 9:02 p.m. when he made his entrance and was greeted by the most enthusiastic parents I’ve had the pleasure of working with.  He weighed 8 lbs 4 oz. and was 21″ tall.

His parents were very excited to meet him.  In fact at one point, William’s daddy was so excited to see him that when I told my birth asst. that I could see the head (so she could chart the time) William’s daddy, who was sitting on the floor next to me to get ready to catch his son, craned his neck around and bent over to get a better look.  With the next contraction, William’s mama had most of his head born but I couldn’t see a thing because Dad’s head was in the way.  When I mentioned that he could move back “just a bit” his over-exuberance took hold and he accidentally headbutted me square on –  “Crrraaaacckk!” the back of his hard head right into my forehead.   Later we heard that he did the same thing to the doctor when William’s big brother was born.   After William was born and nuzzling with his mama, we laughed a lot about the head butt.  I am seriously surprised that I didn’t have a goose egg on my noggin, though.  Dang!!
