Jude was born March 24, 2017 in a birth pool in his parent’s family room. His mother had transferred to our care late in her pregnancy. She was very excited to finally have an out-of-hospital birth. Jude was gently birthed into a warm pool of water while still in his amniotic sac! This is called “born in the caul”. It’s quite rare and very special. Many cultures believe babies born in the caul are blessed with good luck. Some believed that a piece of the caul carried in an amulet bag would protect the wearer. Regardless the myth or superstition, Jude is definitely one special little man.
He weighed 7 lbs 8 oz and 18.5 inches tall. He is his parents 6th child and their first home birth. He was greeted at his birth by his parents, an auntie and his grandmother. The older children were very excited to get home from their sleep over to meet him the next day.
Oh Miss Fenna, welcome to this great big fabulous world! Fenna was born in her home on Valentines Day, February 14, 2017. What a great day to fall in love!
Fenna was greeted by her strong warrior mama and daddy, and soon after by her adoring siblings and grandparents. Fenna was a beautiful, calm and reflective newborn. It was an amazing day and an amazing birth! Here is a picture of Fenna with her mama shortly after she arrived.
(And a special shout out of HUGE thanks to Thrive Chiropractic!! They made a house call for a much needed chiropractic adjustment for our hard working mom.)
Fenna is her parent’s third child, second girl and first HazelTree Baby.
(HazelTree was so blessed by this little family. They had been sick with the flu before and during the birth. The morning of Fenna’s birth went something like this; Dad awoke with the flu and shortly after mom awoke with a rupturing bag of waters. Never a dull moment!!!)
Malachi was born Jan. 13, 2017 in his mother’s bathtub. He took is sweet time getting here and after he was born, we found out why!!
His parents and birth team were quite perplexed by the length of time his mother’s labor was taking. She was completely dilated for several hours but had zero urge to push. Because we try to practice patience in a labor scenario, we weren’t rushing her. Finally! after almost 3 hrs of waiting, mama felt a strong urge to push. Within minutes Mr. Malachi was born with the most extraordinary umbilical cord wrap/knot I’ve ever seen. The cord was coming from his tummy, wrapped around his back, up over his shoulder, wrapped around his neck and then wrapped around itself 3 times. Envision the beginning of a windsor knot for a man’s tie. It was wrapped like that right underneath his chin. It was so tight that I had to somersault him out of his mother’s body as the cord was too tight to allow his entire body to be born. After we somersaulted him out, it took several seconds to figure out how to untangle him. It’s the closest I’ve ever come to cutting a cord before it stopped pulsing.
Malachi weighted 8 lbs 4 oz and was 21″ tall. He was eagerly greeted by his parents and his older sister (who is also a HazelTree Baby!!). In fact, Big Sister was so eager to meet him that at one point I turned to find a little gloved hand reaching into the bathtub right beside me! Somewhere along the way, Big Sister had helped herself to a glove and was reaching in to help me get her brother out! It was surprising at first then I just started to giggle! What a sweet girl! I think we may have a future midwife!
Malachi is his parents second child, 1st son and 2nd HazelTree Baby!!
It’s a boy! No more waiting, wondering or guessing. What a great surprise to welcome Henry into such an amazing and supportive family. Henry is his parent’s first child and there is no question that he will get all the love that he needs. Everyone was thrilled and excited, even grandma and grandpa who often attended the scheduled prenatal visits.
Our HazelTree team was especially appreciative for how well educated and informed his parents were about birth and the whole delivery process. Late in pregnancy, for reasons beyond anyone’s control, Henry’s mama was transferred into the care of Dr. Nathan Meltzer at Valley Hospital.
He was born in the hospital and was welcomed into the world by both his parents, grandparents and numerous aunts and uncles; all who were ready to shower him with love. Kim and Krysta, along with a wonderful doula were also there to meet Henry at his arrival.
Henry was born on November 16th, 2016 at 11:30 a.m.
Mylo’s family was such a joy to partner with. Her mom stayed active throughout her pregnancy and was very diligent to eat healthy and nutritious food. Taking good care of her body led to a very favorable labor and birth. By the way, she’s an expert “hula hoop dancer” with such grace and ease that it is breathtaking to watch. She is also a very calm mama and it was incredibly peaceful to be present at Mylo’s birth.
Mylo entered this world at 1:35 a.m. on October 25, 2016. She was born in her home, into the water of a birthing pool and was welcomed by her amazing mama, daddy and her grandmother. Mylo’s big brother slept through it all! When he woke up, he had a new baby sister. What an adorable little baby girl!
Mylo weighed exactly 8 pounds and measured 21 inches tall.
She is her parent’s second child, first girl and their first HazelTree Baby.
It is so wonderful to have instant love and trust with families in our care. This amazing family recently moved to Coeur d’Alene and came into care with HazelTree in the final trimester of pregnancy.
While the goal was a natural home birth, Dominic’s mom developed pregnancy complications that warranted an early hospital delivery. Under the exceptional care of Dr.Brown and with Kim in full support, Dominic was born on October 8th, 2016 at Valley Hospital. He was a healthy baby and would soon be welcomed into his family and the tribe of his brothers and sister.
Being new in town and without many connections, Kysta had the privilege of watching the kids while mom and dad had the freedom to focus on the birth of little Dominic.
Dominic weighed 6 pounds, 8 ounces and measured 18 inches tall. He is his parent’s fifth child and fourth boy. He is well loved and adorable!
Unfortunately we do not have a photo of Dominic. But trust me! He’s magnificent!!!
Our HazelTree team bonded immediately with this family. California natives, they were in Coeur d’Alene for dad’s summer job at Gozzer Ranch & Resort. What originally started as simply filling in some prenatal visits, soon became a trusting friendship. Out of this friendship and trust came the desire to remain here in North Idaho and give birth to their second daughter.
Sweet Jacy was born on September 6, 2016. While the goal was a natural birth, it turned out to be a challenging labor. She was born with the help of an amazing team at Kootenai Medical Center and Doctor Julie Meltzer. What a little bundle of joy Jacy is.
Jacy is the second child in her family and is adored by her parent’s and big sister.
With eighteen minutes into the new day, little Violet Whimsey made her arrival into this world. Not knowing yet, her parents discovered that their third child would be a precious little girl. Her name, Violet Whimsey brings the quality of being fantastic, playful and fanciful.
This matches the tone of the evening she was born, as it was certainly a captivating and whimsical birth. It was a rather quiet and calm evening for a beautiful and memorable water birth, her mom and dad so close and eager to pour out all their love into their new little one. Sweet Violet has a big sister and big brother who are head over heals in love with her, and who are ready to show her the ropes of life.
What a joy and delight to partner with Violet’s mom through the entire pregnancy! Violet Whimsey was born on September 5, 2016 at 12:18 a.m. She weighed 6 pounds 12 ounces and measured 19 inches tall. She is her parent’s third baby, second girl and first HazelTree baby.
Archer Valentino decided that it was time to begin the new week with his arrival. His due date was July 4th, but Archer didn’t want any competition on his birthday, and without his mother’s permission he enjoyed womb-time for another week.
When Archer decided to come, there was no time for getting a music play list ready or for waiting around. His mom and dad were ready and at 10:03 a.m. on July 11, 2016 he entered the world with strong, loud and healthy vocals.
He naturally stole his parents’ hearts, as well as his older sister’s, who will now have a little brother to play with and enjoy.
What a sweet bundle and a very loved gift! Archer weighed 8 pounds 12 ounces and measured 20.5 inches tall. He is his parent’s second child, their first boy and their first HazelTree Baby.
Sweet Lincoln made his debut on July 10, 2016 at 5:52 a.m.
During their labor, his determined parents worked so very hard and well together. Here is a picture of their labor dance. The HazelTree team was humbled by the strength of Lincoln’s mama. After many hours of strong laboring and pulling out all the stops with midwife tricks, a change of atmosphere was in order. Lincoln needed the good help of the labor and delivery team at Kootanai Medical Center to be born.
This handsome boy was well worth the effort! Lincoln weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces and measured 20.75 inches tall. He is his parent’s first boy, second child and second HazelTree Baby.
Lincoln’s big sister, is so excited to continue being mama’s helper now that little brother is here!
